I've always loved the change of seasons... our need and ability to shift and adapt to the change in weather. Even as a child, I had a passion for noticing all the details of these gradual and (sometimes, let's be honest...) not so gradual transitions from season to season.
More and more, I find myself paying attention to these overarching natural cycles in relation to our need to be more introverted or extroverted, that call from within to take the time to self-soothe rather than socialize, and that astrological push or pull from the cosmos to go big or go back to bed.
Paying attention to astrology and all of its many patterns is how I discovered my big love and respect for Eclipse Season.
So, What Exactly is Eclipse Season?
Did you know that eclipses come in two's? It's true. (Sometimes even in three's but that's not as common.) A solar eclipse is always followed by a lunar eclipse. The space between the eclipses is known as eclipse season. Eclipse season lasts for two weeks and happens twice a year.
Two Eclipses, Two Experiences
Ultimately, Eclipse Season is a time for energetic upgrades.
In the midst of it all, this two-week span of time can feel messy and chaotic and buzzing with energy. It can be both exhausting and invigorating. As we are cut off from the natural and constant energy of the sun, all of our patterns are interrupted. This includes relationships, jobs, and the way we use our energy. Internally and externally, it means a disruption of the status quo. It is an opportunity to see what no longer serves us and allow for its release.
The other side of the magical season coin, is in the "new" that may very well show up in your life. During these times, you might notice new opportunities, new relationships, or new patterns emerging. As the old energy is disrupted, new energy flows in.
You can see how this season can be full of emotional challenges. It may feel like the most difficult, frustrating time... effortlessly woven into the most magical, synchronistic experience.
Navigating by the Stars
In my own life, I've been using the natural cycles, the seasons, and astrology to help me navigate my inner and outer world. Part of being a highly sensitive person, at least for me, means being quite effected by subtle energies of all kinds. This includes the alignment of the starts and planets. Knowing beforehand what the energy of the week looks like, helps me plan my day-to-day. It also helps me to understand my mood, my ability to articulate my thoughts, and whether I feel driven or drained.
This knowledge and the honoring of how I sense and take in the world, allows me to be more empathetic with myself. When I'm working with my clients, I find that this understanding helps them to be more gracious with themselves as well. At the same time, it offers them a sense of relief in knowing that there's a wider lens from which to view the situations that are happening in their lives.
10 Tips for Eclipse Season
Put it on your calendar... Knowing what's coming up astrologically can help you plan all things big and small. Especially during the start of Eclipse Season, you may want to schedule in some downtime, extra sleep, and time away from the crowd for a bit.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Go through your closets, your junk drawers, and all your old boxes. Whether it's in the fall or the spring, cleaning and clearing out of the old to make room for the new is the name of the game.
Honor the moment in a personal ritual. Do you have any old items with lots of emotional charge? Love letters from an ex? Photographs that only seem to bring up pain or resentment? Old journals that feel like they were written by a version of you that you hardly recognize? Consider burning or shredding these items as you wish all involved (including you) love, peace, and new beginnings.
Trust yourself. Listen to your body and honor what it needs. If you need to cry, let it out. If you encounter the buzz of too much energy, move your body. If you're tired, take a nap. Whatever and however your body is processing all the old density, is exactly right.
Drink lots of water. Help your body process out the old density and keep the necessary channels and energy pathways open by keeping yourself well hydrated. We are energetic beings after all... and water is a fantastic conductor!
Clear and cleanse with sea salt mist or rosewater. Salt is naturally purifying, and bathing or misting with sea salt clears old energy. Rosewater is a high vibrational mist that is a must for me when I really need to clear some negative energy.
Keep a journal and notice what's coming up. Pay attention to the places in your life that feel the most emotionally charged. These are the areas of change. Notice what's ready to be released right now.
Evaluate your relationships. This includes the relationship you have with others, yourself, and how you use your energy. Since the Eclipses disrupt energy and connections are all about energy, this is the perfect time to take a look at where you're giving too much, taking too much, or living out of alignment with the various relationships you're part of.
Schedule a tapping session. There's no better time to purge all things emotional than Eclipse Season, and no better way that I know of than tapping to clean and clear what you don't want to bring with you into a new relationship, a new job, or a new endeavor.
Start a daily practice of tapping on your own. Take the opportunity of Eclipse season to add to your library of tapping meditations and clear whatever is tugging at you with the most vigor.
